“Vaccine Passport”— Certification for Policy and Noble Deliberations

COVID 19 Vaccine Passport

When we talk about COVID the new thing everyone would have heard about is “COVID Vaccine Passports”.

So let’s discuss, what are “Vaccine Passports”?

Vaccine passports are the proof or certification of COVID vaccination that many countries introduce for traveling. The vaccination passport is a record of those who have been vaccinated for Covid-19 to obtain certain facilities and events.

Israel is the first country which introduced a vaccine passport from Feb 2021. This passport allows the country’s citizens to visit restaurants, gyms, or patronized events. For non-citizens, the vaccine passport will act as proof of vaccination to enter the country without quarantine.

Soon other countries are also going to announce the vaccine passport including the United States.

Now, many countries are vaccinating their citizens and so people are talking about “vaccine passports”. There are different kinds of positive and negative ideas going on among people.

During the COVID, a different kind of criticism for vaccine passports has created, which is ideally not correct. As we have already divided among two-tier societies. Many are dead, some are working from home and others don’t have any work to do. So, a vaccine passport can help to clean this mess and accelerate recovery.

The main contribution will be that it will encourage people to get vaccinated. Getting vaccinated will boost one’s health, as well as protect others.

What “Vaccine Passport” do we have now?

Like the Israeli government has launched, different countries and non-profits have issued their versions of international travel.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is developing an application where airlines and other aviation industry stakeholders can have a common platform to check the proof of vaccination and its validity.

The non-profit Commons Project has been working with an app which is known as CommonPass, which has a passenger’s vaccination record.

Some countries still don’t have any vaccine certificate system which authorizes or help people to travel domestically, but these countries will check the COVID test certificates for traveling domestically and internationally.

What about ethical concerns?

The main ethical concern over the globe is limited access to vaccine doses for many medical experts. For this reason, the World Health Organization (WHO) has asked to use vaccine certificates which act as vaccine passports to reopen travel.

Even now the US and its individual cities or states require proof for travel or attending any event, which will lead to decrease widespread discrimination.

How “Vaccine Passport” will Work?

Vaccine Passports, as we have discussed above these are the certificates or the proof for COVID vaccination. Different countries have different versions to show vaccine proof. In the US almost all people get vaccinated and they have received a COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card. It is a white paper slip issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as proof of vaccination.

Usually, in all the countries, the vaccination certificates have the patient name, date of birth, patient medical record, the first dose was administered, the manufacturer of the dose, and the healthcare professional. This also includes the information on the second dose of the vaccine.

Where vaccine passports are providing a stop-gap solution that will help to normalize the situation on the other hand some experts say such documents could prove to be somewhat counterintuitive.
